Matthias must be the general in your army regardless of any other Leadership values (Ld) of any other character in your army.
Matthias is seen as the saviour of Redwall by the other animals. Therefor, and friendly regiment within 18" of Matthias add +1 to their combat result at the end of the close combat round.
THE GREAT SWORD OF MARTIN THE WARRIOR
The great sword once fell into the possession of King Bull Spara, the sparrow king. Unfortunately, it was accidentally passed on to Asmodeus, the giant adder, who was slain by Matthias himself. I - am that is. The sword gives Matthias a +2 strength (S) bonus. Strikes last in hand to hand combat.
THE ARMOUR OF MARTIN THE WARRIOR
For years, the armour had been hidden away in the attic above the abbey. Later named Warbeak loft. The armour gives Matthias an armour save of 5+ and a magic ward save of 4+.

WS = Weapon Skill (The higher the WS, the more easier it his to strike your opponent)
BS = Balistic Skill (Indicates how good they are with missile weapons. Eg: crossbows)
S = Strength (Maximum is 10)
T = Toughness (C'mon if you think you're hard!)
W = Wounds (How many wounds a character can take)
I = Initiative (Determines who strikes first in hand to hand combat)
A = Attacks (Roll one dice for each attack Eg: 5 attacks, roll 5 dice)
Ld = Leadership (Determines who is general)
Armour Save = Must get higher than the value indicated on a D6 (Normal 6 sided dice) or the character takes a wound.
